reverie + spekulation | lo fi performance gallery | 07 31 10
just go buy your tickets now. you want to see this show, and it will sell out.
spekulation and the legendary gangsta jazz ensemble is always always always always a raucous freaky fun time, and ahamefule oluo’s new seattle brass ensemble with okanomode performing reverie is one hell of an ensemble that will perform one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have been fortunate enough to hear. seriously. just go get your tickets. now.
saturday, july 31st at the lo fi performance gallery on eastlake. see you there.
these kinds of things.
you don’t have to wait for me, you can go or you can stay — and so far as i can see, it don’t make much difference any which way you can — oh, you can — but you don’t know what you can. but you don’t have to wait for me, you can stay or you can go. yeah, i know just what i feel and i fear i can’t afford to let it.
well first you started to like it,
then you started to feel something,
but then you started to need it,
because it started to mean something.
i could stumble my way through it, hope to wake up and find myself someplace new. i heard you say you saw right through it, but the truth’s not it what you know how to say, but in how you do — that’s how i see you.
someone told you it was coming,
so you were patient and you waited,
but all that waiting started meaning something,
and so you started to hate it again.
oh you thought it would be just fine, what’s the harm just a quick check for tension on the line, but now you’re hooked.
and this is no way to go about these kinds of things, this is the only way to go about these kinds of things.
love sick.
well, it is bob dylan’s birthday today — so here’s a version of the first bob dylan song i ever really loved.
me & eli rosenblatt used to play a cover of it together — anyways, here is a recording from a rehearsal from quite a few years ago.
Inside Out Jazz Awards : Outstanding Lyricist
So, I am quite honored to announce that I’ve been nominated for the Inside Out Jazz Award for Outstanding Lyricist!
Wow! To whoever nominated me : many many many many thanks. Seriously.
For all you first time visitors to michelekhazak.com — take a second, scroll down, click around — you’ll find posters from previous performances, home recordings of new and old songs, live recordings from previous shows and lots of typed up lyrics.
Maybe I can direct you to a handful of my more recent personal favorites?
Track 4 [You Can Feel The Beat]
When I first started this site a while back, I was focused on the exercise of writing and recording one song a week. This particular point in time finds me focusing more on collaborative songwriting efforts with electronic composer and producer Bethurum for his next album (coming this summer), performances with a variety of local groups including my own band Scandalmonger (featuring Lalo Bello, Adam Kessler & Evan Flory-Barnes) local emcee Spekulation & experimental jazz outfit Doomsday Device; lots of new paintings (photographs to come soon — but that’s another post); further reflection on the songs I have written, and as usual, lots and lots of introspective analysis.
So, thanks very much for visiting, I do hope you enjoy what you see & hear, please visit lucidseattle.com and cast your vote — not just for me as Outstanding Lyricist — but for many other talented and excellent musicians and artists who are being honored this year. (*note* if you don’t vote in each category, whatever choices you do make will not be counted — so take a moment to make a choice in each of the categories — you really can’t go wrong
)
Consider joining us at the Inside Out Jazz Awards Show! There will be lots of great performances at Benaroya Hall’s Mark Taper Auditorium — and 100% of all proceeds for the event will be going towards relief efforts in Haiti.
And, if you like what you’ve heard here, you can check out more recordings — including my band Scandalmonger at my bandcamp page where you can download songs for little to no cost.
Many Thanks,
Michele.
a cold burning flame.
i tried to stand up, but i fell down. i tried to give up, but i kept holding on. if you are my witness, then i am a cold burning flame. you say there’s a difference, but to me it all starts to sound the same. i tried to wise up, but i just started from the same damn place again. i tried to rise up, but i fell down. spring will come again.
